Top Cappers News
I’m backing the Capitals in this one. Both Washington and Carolina lost their starting netminders early in Round 1, which raises questions about stability between the pipes. Fortunately, each club has quality depth on the roster—backup options who have plenty of NHL experience and can step in without a massive drop-off in performance. Yet if you look back at the regular season, the real edge belongs to the Caps thanks to home-ice advantage.
Despite putting up solid road numbers in their first-round series, the Hurricanes were significantly less potent away from Raleigh throughout the year. Their offense sputtered more often on the road, and their penalty kill wasn’t nearly as stingy outside of PNC Arena. By contrast, Washington’s lines clicked at home; they controlled possession, dominated the physical battles in front of the net and throttled opposing power plays with far greater consistency.
All things considered, this contest should mirror the pattern we saw over 82 games: a tighter, more patient Caps attack backed by a robust defensive structure, all buoyed by a lively home crowd. Look for Washington to strike first in Game 1. Take Washington ML
